Background and Experience:

Hinkel Engineering, Inc. began when Lewis Hinkel started his private practice as a consulting engineer in October 1996.

The staff includes two Professional Engineers, one who is a Certified Energy Manager, and two Certified Plumbing Designers, one who is also an acredited LEED AP. We have over 100 years combined experience.

As a firm, our experience ranges from applications for general offices, retail, assembly spaces, healthcare, nursing homes, education (daycare through post secondary) and industrial / manufacturing.

Mechanical Systems:

A gym, classrooms, corridor and unused attic space were remodeled into a new teen area on the third floor of the United Methodist Church in Wooster, Ohio. A total of over 5,700 sq. ft. of space was remodeled with the addition of Mitsubishi variable refrigerant system for both cooling and heating. Since there was a minimal amount of ceiling space available, a majority of the units are located in an... attic space above the Cafe. Sidewall grilles in the Multi-purpose room were designed to match the size and location of the acoustical panels, to blend in with the panels. Each room has a thermostat for individual space control. An energy recovery unit was installed for fresh air into the space with CO2 sensors to deliver the required amount of outdoor air as needed for the amount of people in the space. This will minimize any wasted energy, and will save the church energy costs.

The mechanical systems for a building must be integrated within the total facility design concept in order to provide for occupant comfort, for sanitation, for life safety, and for compliance with building codes and standards. These systems include plumbing, fire protection, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and temperature controls.
